Main Purpose and Function


Working with the Facility Operations Team (Supervisor of Recreation, Superintendent of Mechanical and Maintenance Technician III), the Maintenance Technician II is responsible for the supervision and maintenance work necessary for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and overhaul of various low pressure hot water heating plants (including condensing boilers), air conditioning and ventilation systems, ammonia ice rink plants, pumps and control systems, pool operations, geoexchange systems, heat pumps, micro district energy system and energy optimization of the complex.


 


Specific Duties and Responsibilities


The focus of this position is the operation of the plant complex. Duties include: provide orientation and training to Maintenance Lead Hands (MLHs), Utility Maintenance Workers (UMWs) and Building Workers (BWs) to achieve high standards of excellence in service; scheduling and supervising the work of MLHs, UMWs and BWs on both day and night shifts to ensure adherence to established standards, best practices and procedures of equipment operation and plant maintenance; ensuring that statue laws are followed and that the maintenance work is completed according to SAP Planned Maintenance. Additional responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, dealing with stakeholders, managing a maintenance budget, and on-site team support.


 


Qualifications


Education and Experience:


  • Completion of courses in the technical specialty and considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Technical training in building technology, including: HVAC, DDC, refrigeration operations and maintenance is preferred
  • Technical Safety BC Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate or higher required
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record required
  • Class C Gas Certificate and Low Energy Electrical Worker designation is desirable
  • Pool Operators Certificate Level I and II is desirable

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building system components and related installations.
  • Considerable knowledge of building systems and the provincial regulations governing operations.
  • Ability to supervise the work of subordinates performing related work.
  • Ability to operate and adjust equipment and automated control systems (DDC), make complex repairs and replace components.
  • Ability to develop work plans, adapt work methods and estimate materials.
  • Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports.
  • Skill in the care and use of tools and testing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software is preferred.
