We’re looking for a candidate to fill this position in an exciting company.

• Support the General Counsel in dealing with business-critical issues relating to commercial law, intellectual property and employment law in a global environment

• Take primary responsibility within the legal department for the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide variety of client and vendor contracts

• Manage the company’s anti-counterfeit program including prevention and enforcement

• Work with the HR department to manage issues relating to employment law

• Independently address day-to-day commercial work, providing hands-on legal support to the different areas of the business

• Manage the needs of internal clients independently and being assertive regarding managing risk where appropriate

• Become the legal lead in several subject matters within the business including servicing internal teams and negotiating with external parties

• Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to manage and mitigate risk

• Litigation and claims management in the relevant subject matter

• Develop and implement procedures for contract management and contract administration

• Implement and manage a precedent system for the company’s contracts, and database of contract templates

• Manage legal spending in areas of responsibility

• Play a crucial role in the coaching, training, and support of internal clients and colleagues

• Participate in various projects as needed

• Exclusion: the role does not involve working on public company law or securities law

• Law degree from an accredited Canadian law school

• Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada

• Business-savvy attorney with 3-4 years of commercial law experience at a major law firm and in-house experience with a major corporation

• Intellectual property and employment law experience considered an asset

• Exposure to a broad range of legal practice experience
