UK VISA FEE WAIVERS FOR APPLICANTS DURING COVID-19
The situation is intensely serious for affected migrants in the UK trying to find the fees to pay for ongoing UK immigration applications, the UK Immigration Health Surcharge and many other additional fees linking to priority services, biometrics appointments and English language tests.
The main stream of migrants in the UK are not allowed to access public funds, eliminating the safety net of facilities like Universal Credit.
For Example, a single applicant applying to extend a Partner visa, will be expected to pay almost £2,500 to submit the visa application. If any dependants are included in the application, those fees apply to each individual applicant.
Given the current scenario some UK visa applicants will have to think about applying for a fee waiver from the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). This applies to those visa applicants making applications with a human rights section and to extension applications only (except applications for indefinite leave to remain).
To meet the criteria for a fee waiver, the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) must be happy that one of the following conditions applies:
- You are able to prove (with evidence) that you are destitute and deprived; or
- You are able to show that you would be left destitute by payment of the UK visa application fees; or
- You are not able to prove 1 & 2 above, but there are extraordinary conditions that validate a grant of a fee waiver
Fee waiver requests should be made online prior to making an application for leave to remain is made.
The end result is that it is a violation of human rights law to charge for a visa application where the applicant is not able to pay for the fees. Nevertheless, UK visa applications should be well organised in order to show that this is the case; they include the submission of wide-ranging backup evidence as the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) takes a detailed look at the UK Visa applicant’s ability to pay their application fees.
