As the UK overlays the road for the execution of a points-based immigration system on 1st January 2021, there has been much politics from Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, to have its own separate visa system.
#POINTSBASEDSYSTEM #BREXIT #NICOLASTURGEON
Seeing that countries such as Australia and Canada have their specific visa systems, the prospect for Scotland to have its separate visa could ultimately be happening once the new UK immigration route is completely applied. Australia has systems such as the Regional Sponsored Migrant Scheme visa whereas Canada has the Quebec skilled workers scheme and others. What this shows is that Scotland’s calls for a distinct and discrete visa system from the rest of the UK is not irrational nor out of the ordinary, formulating it a somewhat likely overlook.
Even though this suggestion for Scotland has been complete denied by Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister, others are keen to drive this suggestion onward and have a sovereign immigration path for international migrants to enter Scotland.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and MPs have supported the latest immigration bill to be presented at the end of the Brexit transition period that is 1st January 2021 on the basis of embracing an “Australian style” points-based system and having complete power over its borders. On the other hand, if Australia has its specific regional immigration systems, shouldn’t the UK then incorporate regional visa systems to entirely gain the advantages of an Australian style immigration system?
The possible view point
If Scotland implement its own immigration system, it may give the impression of the Australia’s skilled regional provisional visa scheme. This scheme permits foreign nationals to apply for permanent residency if they can prove they have resided and worked in regional Australia. On the other hand, this is only a belief and it may appear reasonably dissimilar would it go onwards.
In the end, the vote for a fortified immigration route for Scotland has been sworn for by its nationals. Conferring to a poll led by cross-party and anti-Brexit group, EU+ME, 63.37% of Scots supported the suggestion and decided that a new system for Scotland would provide Scotland the control to make diverse conclusions from the rest of the UK.
Thus Scottish campaign for independency, the dispute for its own visa and immigration system has been demonstrated over the years. It has also been exaggerated because of the planned effect of the new immigration system in the UK, whereby its sovereign skilled advisory group has cautioned that immigration to Scotland could be expressively reduced. Due to the brand-new Tier 2 salary thresholds mentioned in the new system, this can possibly create key staff shortages across multiple segments.
Depending on the influences on Scotland and the rest of the UK due to the enforcement of the UK’s new immigration system, only time will say whether the movement for a regional visa system for Scotland will be released.
