On 2 December 2020, the day national lockdown in England is planned to end, the UK Home Office anticipates to send back around 50 Black British residents on a charter flight to Jamaica.
Similar flight was planned for February 2020 which led to public disagreement and many legal interferences, preventing 25 migrants being deported. Eventually, 17 people were deported on that flight. Such deportation flights, where a plane is chartered wholly for the deportation of residents, have come to be noticed as fundamentals of the ‘hostile environment’ – a compilation of procedures targeted at making life awful for undocumented migrants in the UK.
